The history of the agency BARLAG

In March 1988, 19-year-old Michael Barlag became self-employed by joining a small newspaper publisher based in Osnabrück. In 1990 he took over as editor, changed the newspaper‘s name, and turned it into the scene paper it still is: THE NEW INSIDER. From its beginning, the company also functioned as an advertising agency whose original core competence was client consultation in classic advertising, marketing and advertising concepts, advertising campaigns, promotions, graphic & design, and production and service.

The BARLAG werbe- & messeagentur GmbH currently focuses on the organization of career events. “barlagmessen” is our quality name, and we now hold 24 events throughout Germany each year.


Creating a recruiting event for all ages and qualification levels– that was the inspiration behind the start of the “jobmesse osnabrück” in 2004. Our agency now tours with the “jobmesse deutschland tour” throughout Germany, and our success continues to grow. An increasing number of exhibitors and visitors speaks for itself and demonstrates that this motivational event for three generations is as popular as ever.

Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Nuremberg, the Emsland, Münster or its hometown Osnabrück: the agency Barlag now applies its cross-sector event concept in 20 cities throughout Germany. We belong to the leading career event organizers in Germany. Plans for additional locations are in full swing.

In 2014, Barlag adopted the event format “beruf & bildung” in Hanover, an education and career event for the Young Generation that is known throughout Germany.

In 1995, Barlag added the immobilienmesse osnabrück, the “mother of all trade fairs”, to its repertory. The event was first held in the Dresdner Bank and has been expanding its program in its home city of Osnabrück as well as from 2017 on also in Bielefeld, ever since.

The event’s themes are construction, housing, renting, modernization, financing and energy optimization. This is rounded out by an accompanying program that offers varied activities to entertain the whole family.
